As you know, I am always looking for interesting things related to video games that the whole world doesn't know about.  I happen to be a big fan of making and customizing toys, and have been messing around more and more with "urban" vinyl "designer art" toys.  Whatever the lable on this niche market of toys, the concept is really fun.  Take a toy, customize it, and make it your own.

I was searching for something new to customize when I came across this interesting toy called Soopa by the Coin Up Bros.  A big things with these do it yourself toys is that they are usually limited edition, so you have to snag one up or they no longer become available.  That's sort of the art side of it, making it special because only a limited number of people can have them.

Anyway, this little arcade figure makes for a great present or gift for that artistic one in your family.  Here are some more examples of artists that have customized theirs.

If you play World of Warcraft and haven't heard of Figure Prints than you are missing out on a rare opportunity to have your video game figure turned into a real 3D Sculpture.  This is made possible by a company called Figure Prints.  They use a 3d technology that captures your WOW character's 3 dimensional model right within the game, and then use a 3D printer that creates the figure layer by layer.

This service is so popular that Figure Prints has to have a lottery every month to decide which people in the waiting list will get their figure remade.  So odds are against you to have your figure transfigured into a real life model, but...

I found some of the best custom halo action figures I've ever seen. On the old blog (Rest In Peace) I had an article up about a custom Halo Transformers vehicle that was Master Chief, but it also transformed into an ATV Tank. It was wicked, but these customs by Randy Chisholm of Cannibalized Action Figures has just 1-uped that one.

This is a first time I've caught glimpse of Chris's work, but I hope it won't be the last. Every part of the figure, from sculpting to painting, has been made to the most exact detail. Here are the two models currently up at auction: The Fallen Hero and the Scorpion.

This is the first character in my new series of fallen heroes. This poor Spartan Soldier was involved in a pretty serious skirmish with some of the deadliest Covenant soldiers to date. Even though he took a plasma grenade to the leg he was still able to single handedly limp away with another victory under his belt."

Looks like these custom, hand made figures are going for $50 (Wounded Soldier), and $300+(Scorpion), but is well worth it for any video game memorabilia collector with good taste. So check them out, and check out Cannibalized Action Figures other customs in their store.

Red Fly Studios, Zen, and Gamecock really went all out on promotions.  Part of this may be because as an industry riddled with "coolness" factor, mushrooms are harder to promote next to first person shooters and 20 year old franchises.  But if you check out the game Mushroom Men for Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii, you will see that this game has a ton of potential, with an interesting concept, great graphics, and fun gameplay that puts Nintendo's special controllers to use..
